What happens if I pay my property taxes late? Am I in danger of losing my property if I do not pay my taxes?
By state statute, property taxes are due on or before November 30 (or the following Monday if that date falls on a weekend). If payment is not made by the due date, the greater of 1% or $10 per property parcel will be added to the tax amount. If the payment is made after January 31, the penalty will be the greater of 2.5% of the December 1 balance or $10. Interest will be charged if not paid by January 31, retroactive to January 1. Properties which have delinquent taxes into the fifth year back are subject to tax sale.
